Do you remember how we first met? I do. You were sitting in the corner, scribbling frantically into your notebook. Scribbling past memories down so you won't forget them. I approached you and said Hi. However, I was ignored.

Do you remember how we became best of friends, terming ourselves as "best friends" and saying that NOTHING could break us apart? So where are you right now? People used to be so envious of us that they tried to break us apart, but we all know that they're all just jealous. We were best of friends and people were so envious of us. WERE, WERE.

Do you remember the very, very long keychain I gave to you for your birthday, strung together with letters and a decorative bead in between, reading "FRIENDS FOREVER"? I remember giving it to you in private. I put it in an envelope and told you to keep it and not let this other girl who was also our friend see it, because she'd be jealous. It made me happy to see you put it on your bag. You told me that you lost a letter from the word "FOREVER", but however the keychain still looked normal.

I told you I still have a spare bead with that letter and I offered to re-string it for you, but you said it was okay. I know it wasn't.
Do you remember being the loner in class, just like me? We'd sit together during recess. You liked bread and I liked mashed potato. We'd talk about what happened in class, and you told me random facts and taught me how to draw. We'd do it every recess, so that we'd never be alone. I was always the one to wait for you. Nonetheless, I was happy that you came to sit with me during recess.

Do you remember that your results were so much better than mine that you got to go to a different secondary school when we graduated? It was sad. We had to say goodbye. You were so busy in secondary school that I could never come over to hang out. Perhaps it's because of your mum, who thinks that I am a bad influence, just because I am not as clever as you.

We eventually lost contact, Johanna.










Didn't we say we'd be best friends FOREVER, until the day we die? So where are you right now, or was I just being naive when that promise was made?
